Commenting on the news that Northumberland Foods has today stopped trading, North East Lib Dem MEP Fiona Hall said:

"It is a great disappointment that Northumberland Foods had to stop trading despite all the efforts that have been made to support this important local employer.

"It is a very sad day for families in Amble who have worked loyally in this factory for many years.

"What matters now is to help those who have lost their jobs. I hope that a buyer may be found for the plant and that it can be re-opened as a going concern."
