With only 37% of 18 to 24 year olds casting their vote in the last General Election, a group of young Liberal Democrats is bucking the trend by helping to spread the Lib Dem message of fairness in Durham and Newcastle this weekend.
North East Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall who will join the Liberal Youth on their campaigning weekend in the North East, said:
"It is great to be out and about campaigning with the Liberal Youth this weekend.
"Young people will be the ones shaping the future and taking on the challenges of the 21st Century. The Lib Dem pledges on a fairer future speak to them directly."
Added Carol Woods, prospective Lib Dem MP for Durham City:
"It's great that people want to come and join the team in Durham to help win this election. Young people are often criticised for their apathy but this event shows that many of them care deeply about getting a fairer deal, and they recognise the Lib Dems are the party to deliver that."
